Picture Update
Here are some soccer pictures, as promised. Kaitlyn really has done so good! I've been really nervous about how she would do. For four seasons, she has been used to watching James coach other teams, and has been able to practice a little bit if she wanted to, then go sit down. During games she would be able to run around on the field for awhile and then come sit with me. I wasn't sure that she would understand that now she is actually part of the team and would need to stay out there, follow directions, etc. She complains every now and then about not wanting to go to practice, she's tired, she's thirsty. But during the game she does great! I think she has been blessed with some athletic ability, that's for sure. It's really fun to watch her.

Four to One...
That's right everyone. We are having another GIRL! We are a little surprised, but a LOT excited. Especially Kaitlyn. The sonogram looked great. Her little hands were tucked up under her chin and her feet were crossed. It looked like she was sucking on her tounge, which is exactly what Kaitlyn was doing in her sonogram. It was pretty cute.
Also - Kaitlyn's first soccer game was a success. It was a blast to watch. I have some funny pictures that I will post later. I was a little nervous b/c Kaitlyn didn't seem to excited at first. But, she actually ended up scoring two goals! I was so proud. She walked off the field each time and gave everyone a high five. Hilarious. More to come on that later.
Have a good Monday!

Summer is over....
Summer has officially come to an end around here. Kaitlyn and Cora have both started "school" two days a week at Young Children's World. I have also begun teaching there this year, and so for I am enjoying it. I am teaching the young 2's class - and we have some really cute kiddos! I love the other girls that I teach with - they make going to work enjoyable. Kaitlyn is in the PreK class, and I am really impressed with the things she gets to do each day. Her teacher's are very creative and I think she will be even more prepared for Kindergarten when the year is done. Cora has done great in her class - no crying! Her teachers say she just chills out and is happy the entire time, which makes me happy!
Kaitlyn also started soccer a couple of weeks ago. Her first game is this Saturday. We'll see how that goes... James is coaching her team, along with one of his good friends. His daughter and Kaitlyn are great friends - it will be fun watching them play soccer together. James let Kaitlyn pick out the name of their team. She became obsessed with sea creatures this summer after our visit to the beach, so they are called the Stingrays. Or, just "The Rays" as Kaitlyn calls them. I'm sure I'll have some good pictures to post after the weekend.
We have kicked off another year of leading Huddles at Highland. Our freshman are now Sophomores - and they already seem older! I am excited to enjoy another year with these sweet kids.
All the ACU students are back. We live VERY close to campus - so we definitely feel the effects of this! Lots of cars parked on our street, people (guys) driving way too fast, hearing the chapel bells ring from our front yard.... ACU has done some pretty cool renovations lately though. It's neat to walk around campus and see everything new.
We find out the sex of Baby Mayo #3 on Monday! I am so anxious for this appointment. I'm just ready to see him/her and hear from the doctor that everything is progressing normally and that so far everything looks good.
James' job is still going really well. He is given new responsibilities every day it seems like. He is constantly talking about it and trying to think of new ideas. It's fun to finally see him excited about his career, and to see him doing well. His company is sending him to a conference in Virginia for 7 whole days in a few weeks. He is super excited about this opportunity, but we sure will miss him.

the girls
Please continue to pray for baby Bennett. I am having a hard time posting anything b/c my thoughts and days are so consumed by him. So, for now - I'll just post some recent pictures of my beautiful girls that I have been hugging and kissing way more than usual this week. I think Kaitlyn is getting sick of it but I just don't care.

Prayers
James and I have some really good friends that had their sweet baby boy, Bennett on Sunday. He has had many complications and is really fighting right now. Please remember Travis, Kelly and baby Bennett in your prayers. Here are two websites if you would like to read about it. Thanks.

No Rest for the Weary
But, we've had a fun few days! My niece and nephew (James' sister's kids) stayed the past 5 days with us. Their Dad is stationed in Iraq and their mom was enjoying a week of vacation. Kaitlyn had a BLAST with Lofton and Graham here for an extended "sleepover." We did lots of fun things including, Chuck E Cheese, "Underdog" at the movies, trips to the park, swimming at friend's houses, a water balloon fight, playing on the Slip n Slide, lots of games, and ending our time together with a trip to the new water park in Eastland, Texas. This is a really fun water park by the way. It was just their standard city pool, but some rich guy donated a ton of money to upgrade it. It now has lots of little slides, an awesome toddler area, and even a big slide that goes into the deep end. The kids had an absolute blast. They could have stayed there all day. The best part is, it only cost $1 for kids and $2 for adults. And you can bring your own food and drinks. I will for sure be taking Kaitlyn back a few more times before summer is over. The drive (right at an hour) isn't too bad - especially if you plan on spending the day out there.

Baby News:
Still feeling pregnant. I'm 16 weeks now. We won't know boy/girl until September 10th. My guess is a boy. Not sure why, just have a feeling. I do have what's called Pregnancy Induced Hypo-Thyroidism. Not quite sure what that is, other than my hormones are completely out of whack, I'm really lethargic, and I have to take a pill every day. This would explain why I had a complete and total break down at 11:30 the other night when I wanted to re-arrange my entire house and James wasn't up for it. I'm ready for things to stabilize to say the least!
Our air conditioner went out today. It's currently 84 degrees in our house and steadily climbing. Fortunately, the guys are out looking at it now. This is another reason that I like renting. This is the 3rd time this summer that we have had to have someone out to look at it. And we haven't had to spend a dime.

Just can't get this out of my mind....
I saw this on a blog a few weeks ago, and I just can't stop thinking about it. This is amazing on so many different levels.
This picture is that of a 21-week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by a surgeon named Joseph Bruner. The baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb. Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an obstetrics nurse in Atlanta. She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable surgical procedure. Practicing at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, he performs these special operations while the baby is still in the womb. During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via C-section and makes a small incision to operate on the baby. As Dr. Bruner completed the surgery on Samuel, the little guy reached his tiny, but fully developed hand through the incision and firmly grasped the surgeon's finger. Dr. Bruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped, it was the most emotional moment of his life, and that for an instant during the procedure he was just frozen, totally immobile. The photograph captures this amazing event with perfect clarity. The editors titled the picture, "Hand of Hope."The text explaining the picture begins, "The tiny hand of 21-week-old fetus Samuel Alexander Armas emerges from the mother's uterus to grasp the finger of Dr. Joseph Bruner as if thanking the doctor for the gift of life." Little Samuel's mother said they "wept for days" when they saw the picture. She said, "The photo reminds us pregnancy isn't about disability or an illness, it's about a little person." Samuel was born in perfect health, the operation 100 percent successful.

This and That.....
So, this is my first week as a full time stay at home mom of 2. (Not including my maternity leave). The days seem so long, but I've been getting so much done. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep the house straight and the laundry caught up, but as for today I feel pretty good.
Last week I was lucky enough to get to help teach a group of 4th and 5th graders at Learning to Lead camp at ACU. It was a last minute decision, but one that I am glad I made. It was very exhausting. I was there from 8:00-12:30 and then back again from 7:00 - 9:30pm. Kaitlyn and Cora went as well in the mornings. They were in the "pre-camper" group. Kaitlyn had an absolute blast, and Cora seemed to enjoy it as well. And, I got to teach with my friend Kat who is just a real blessing - so it was awesome to get to spend the week with her.

Well, we own a minivan. Yikes. I never thought that I would say this, but I LOVE it. It's not brand new, and it's not even a brand that I was familiar with, but it is the most convenient thing ever with kids. And it's not even that bad looking - in fact I really like it. Kaitlyn loves standing up and walking back to her seat. It's hilarious. James fits in it pretty well - it has adjustable brake and gas pedals, so he can kind of stretch his legs out when he drives. The best thing about it - no payments! My uncle buys cars at auction, so he got us a really good deal.

We also bought new mattresses a couple of weeks ago. Man, I didn't know what I was missing out on. I think I now know what a good night's sleep really means.
Our small group got together for a swimming party on Sunday. The kids had a BLAST. These are my favorite pictures of the evening. This is our good friend Jason taking his 2 girls and Kaitlyn down the slide. Awesome. Kaitlyn also did a complete front flip off of the diving board. I'm really sad that I missed that photo opp. She was pretty proud of herself. I'm still wondering when we will make our first trip to the ER.....

Long Time No Blog.
I wish I had some great excuse as to why I have not posted in awhile, but there's just not. Chalk this one straight up to laziness. Lots has happened though, so I'll try to re-cap. First of all, James has kindly reminded me that I have said I would blog about Cora twice and still have not. Second child already getting the shaft. Can't imagine how deprived #3 will be.
Cora is just the sweetest, most cuddly baby ever. She is very laid back. If you are holding her, you can guarantee she will be touching your face, giving you kisses, laying her head on your shoulder, etc. She is finally sitting up on her own, but she still prefers to just lay down and roll wherever she wants to go. At her 6 month check up she weighed 20.2 pounds and was 30 inches long. Still in the 99th percentile! She and Kaitlyn absolutely love each other. Kaitlyn was in Lubbock with my parents this past weekend, and we could sense a definite mood change in Cora. She just didn't smile as much, seemed a little more fussy. As soon as Kaitlyn was back, she was back to her giggly, cheerful self. Kaitlyn can make her laugh harder than anyone so far. It's so sweet to watch them together. Some other things Cora enjoys are playing with her feet, clicking her tongue, listening to anyone sing Old MacDonald had a Farm, Baby Einstein videos, her soft Lamb, any kind of baby food, her exersaucer and her swing, and splashing in the water. When she started getting her teeth she was NOT interested in her paci anymore. Most of me is glad that she doesn't want it or need it, but there is a part of me - for example, during church or in the car, that wishes I could plug it right in. I love having two girls and just feel so incredibly blessed.

Okay, what else has been going on.....
I celebrated my 28th birthday on Saturday! James took me to a nice dinner and we rented three movies. We haven't rented a movie in forever! We watched Little Miss Sunshine and Freedom Writers. I thought both were pretty good. We are getting new mattresses for our bed, so that's my big present from James, but Cora picked out some awesome perfume for me and Kaitlyn got me a new hair dryer. Both of which, I love. My parents bought me the best sheets ever for our new bed. They are called Pure Beech. They are the softest things I have ever felt. I can't wait to sleep on them! Also, a few of my girlfriends took me out to a great lunch and to get a pedicure. So, I had a very good day!

We had a really fun Fourth of July. We started the day with a neighborhood parade. This was a parade that anyone could be in. All of the neighborhood kids just decorate their bikes and ride them, there are some old fashioned cars and a firetruck or two. Very small, but a parade none-the-less and Kaitlyn thought it was awesome. For lunch we celebrated Cora's future husbands First Birthday party. After late naps, we headed to the park to watch the fireworks which turned out to be much better than last year. It was a fun day!

Two weekends ago we traveled to Dallas to see James' family. His step-dad was having surgery so we went to be with them and see grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, and cousins. We are thankful that his surgery seemed to be a success - he has a good prognosis. Kaitlyn enjoyed seeing her cousins that she doesn't see too much, and it's always a treat to see James' grandparents that live in Mississippi. This was their first time to meet Cora too, so that was neat.

This is my last week of work at Big Brothers Big Sisters. I know, I didn't stay too long - but I think staying home is just the best thing for our growing family. I really love my job and the few hours a week that I get to get out and do something. However that time of day (4:00-8:00pm) is just a hard time to be away. Kaitlyn misses eating dinner all together and I do too! I am looking forward to teaching at Young Children's World two days a week beginning in August.
We sold my Honda Civic. Poor, poor Silvia. I was so sad to sell her! I have been so many places in that car! The most memorable road trip ever was when I went with Cortni all the way to Virginia. That car took me back and forth to Dallas every weekend when James and I were dating. I first got Silvia the summer before my Sophomore year in college. She really was the greatest car ever. But, with three kids we are probably going to need something a little bigger. So as soon as we sell my Papa's car we will be headed toward the land of the mini van. (Insert comment here).

Vacation!
Well, we just got back from a WONDERFUL vacation to South Padre. I have the greatest parents ever for taking the four of us, my brother and his girlfriend on an all expense paid trip. Besides the 10-11 hour car trip (which wasn't too bad) we had an awesome time. Here are a few of the highlights and some pictures to follow:
* This was Kaitlyn's first time to see the ocean and she LOVED it. She literally ran right in with her clothes on the minute we got there. She loved being able to play in the sand, get all muddy and just run in the water. She enjoyed looking for shells, crabs, and any other creatures that were scurrying around.
* My Dad, brother and James got to go deep sea fishing. They got up super early on Sunday morning and enjoyed 4-5 hours out on the ocean. They came home with lots of trout for us to cook on Sunday night. I'm not a fish lover, but it was pretty good!
* We went on a dolphin watching cruise one day. We actually saw quite a few dolphins! They also threw a net out behind the boat and pulled it for about 15 minutes to see what kinds of fish they could catch. They pulled up a starfish, a sea horse, a few crabs, and lots of different fish. Kaitlyn loved being able to see and touch anything that she could.
* Dad and I played sand volleyball with my brother and Brittany. I was so sore the next day. Seriously?
* This was Cora's first time to swim and she loved it. It didn't take her long to figure out how to splash herself in the face. It was hilarious the first time she splashed herself with salt water.
* There was a little "amusement park" really close to our condo. Kaitlyn got all strapped into a harness and had someone bounce her VERY high on a trampoline. This was fun to watch and she loved it. We also got to see my brother go bungee jumping!! I couldn't believe he actually did it, but if I wasn't pregnant I would have been right behind him.
* Two mornings that we were there the Sea Turtle Patrol were letting tiny baby sea turtles go into the ocean. This was very neat to watch. These babies were only about 3 or 4 inches long. (They look bigger in the pictures) But it was so fun to watch them make their way into the water and figure out how to swim out to sea.
* We made sand castles, fed the sea gulls, played frisbee on the beach, had a cookout, went out to a nice dinner, played lots of Uno, and just enjoyed spending time all together as a family.

Another year comes and goes....
Cora's post will have to wait until tomorrow....
Today is Kaitlyn's 4th birthday! Happy Birthday sweet girl! We love you so much! We are having her bday party in a few days, but today we celebrated with blueberry muffins with candles in them, a few gifts this morning, and lunch at Fuji's. We told her she could pick any place to go eat and that's where she picked. She loves to watch the cook prepare the food right in front of you. He even did a couple of extra tricks just for her today.
I have no pictures because we left our camera in Dallas last weekend, but hopefully there will be more to come.

My biggest girl...
First of all - thanks for all of the comments! All 32 of them. I don't think I've ever had that many. I do appreciate all of you so much and all of the encouragement!
I was sitting at work tonight - not really working. It's so hard to keep my mind from wandering these days about the future. But today I have just been thinking so much about my first baby. Sweet Kaitlyn. Man. This girl is one true treasure. She makes me laugh, FILLS my heart with so much joy that I can shed tears just thinking about her, yet - she can make me want to pull my hair out. She is nothing short of a gift from God. So, here is some of what she is into these days:
* She is currently in her second week of swim lessons. Someone please instill just a SLIGHT fear in her! This girl makes me so nervous sometimes. She has done great and is learning so much. She can hold her head under water for over 10 seconds and swim to her teacher from the wall. She has done great, but she will be strapped to her floaties and/or her life jacket at all times when we go to the beach next week. The girl is fearless.
* She says the sweetest prayers at night. One of my favorite things is the way she uses the word "praise." She will say it like, "God I just praise (pray) that you be with Papaw and help him feel better soon." Or, "In Jesus Name I praise, Amen." Most of the time though, instead of saying Amen she says Goodnight. I want to record one of her prayers sometime soon. They are just precious.
* She is just getting so tall and skinny, with cute little freckles across her nose and cheeks. She has one special freckle that is right in between her pinkie and her ring finger. So random. But she knows it's special to me, and I kiss it every night when I tuck her in.
* She refuses to have covers at night, but anytime during the day when she is hanging out on the couch, she has to be completely covered with a blanket.
* She asks SO many questions during the day, that I often find myself frustrated and annoyed. But she is just soaking up so much and learning new things everyday. I have to remind myself that she is at such an impressionable stage and I can either chose to ignore her questions, or use that time to work on my patience and teach her something new. I'm really working on it.
* She loves to have thumb wars. She wins every time, but she cheats and uses both hands. I'm sure her Daddy taught her that because that's the only way he can beat me.
* She can't stand lip gloss. On herself or anyone else for that matter. She just gets a really grossed out look on her face when she notices that I have any on. She also can't stand it when anyone kisses on the lips. If she happens to see James and I do this, she will literally sit down and start crying real tears. I don't know what to do about that one.
* She loves to talk on the phone. She is really into leaving messages on people's voice mail. She knows that if she pushes the green button twice on my cell phone it will call someone. She does this ALL THE TIME. So, if you have just talked to me, you can expect a random call from Kaitlyn. It's fine if you don't answer. You'll have a pretty funny voice mail to listen to.
* She loves Hannah Montana, High School Musical and the Backyardigans. She also recognizes Sports Center and will usually humor James by sitting and watching it with him for awhile - before kindly asking him to turn it to "her shows."
* She has a husband named Chad that she married in Tennessee and has to email daily.
* She has the best facial expressions. I love when she is excited about something, or is really concerned. She is always full of drama.
* She loves to talk about Heaven. When we will go there, how we will get there, who will be there...
* She sings a lot. She knows how to pull up iTunes on our computer. She is also really good at making up songs on the spot. She also loves to carry on a conversation - singing all of the words.
* She enjoys computer games. Starfall.com and Leapfrog.com are two of her favorites. She is also obsessed with Spanish. She seems to want to learn it soooo bad.
* She likes going on walks around the ACU jogging trail. Her highlights of these walks are petting other people's dogs and stepping on as many bugs as she can possibly find.
* I absolutely LOVE watching her play with Cora. She loves her so much. She always sings to her, holds her hand in the car, prays for her. She is the first person she wants to see in the morning and the last person she wants to kiss goodnight. Cora's face just lights up anytime Kaitlyn is around. She smiles at her constantly.
Okay - I could seriously go on and on. If you want to be entertained, just stop by the Mayo house anytime. There is always a show going on.
Next post will be all about my beautiful Cora James. Stay tuned......

Mayo, Party of Five???????
I'm pretty sure Cora's face says it all.
I've known for about 3 1/2 weeks and I'm still waiting for someone to wake me up and tell me it it has all been a dream.
These babies will be 13 months apart if I make it the full 40 weeks.
If you are trying the NuvaRing as a form of birth control you might want to reconsider.
We told Kaitlyn the other night and her face just turned really serious and she said, "Well, where's THAT kid gonna sleep?" I. have. no. idea.
When you pick your jaw up off the floor if you wouldn't mind sending a prayer up for us, that would be great!
